Back when Axiology was started, quality vegan makeup was hard to come by. These days, thanks to growing demand and the hustle of many small companies, this is no longer the case.
In honor of Veganuary (that time of year when people try going vegan for one month), here are our favorite vegan beauty swaps. This means these are all products made without the use of any animal-derived ingredients such as lanolin, beeswax or squalane.
1. FOUNDATION
Range Beauty True Intentions Hydrating Foundation ($28)
Created for “forgotten shades” and sensitive skin, this soothing and hydrating formula offers sheer-to-medium coverage in a satin finish without exploiting innocent animals.
2. SKIN TINT + SUNSCREEN
Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40 ($48)
It’s available in 30 shades, offers SPF 40 thanks to non-nano zinc oxide, includes skin-loving hyaluronic acid and niacinamide, and provides buildable, subtly-dewy coverage. Skincare, suncare, and makeup in one? Yes, please!
3. POWDER
Laws of Nature Cosmetics Loose Mineral Foundation ($35)
This stuff is all about the pigment without the fillers, resulting in light-weight, easy, matte coverage that lasts. Specially formulated for melanin-rich, sensitive, and/or acne-prone skin.
4. CONCEALER
Cheekbone Beauty Sustain Complexion Pencil ($19)
More of an all-in-one than a true concealer (we can’t help it, we love a multitasker!), these pencils excel when used in concert. Get one for concealer/highlight, one for contour, and one in the middle. Light-weight, easy-to-blend, housed in biodegradable pencil form, and a multitasker.
5. HIGHLIGHTER & BRONZER
Axiology Balmies ($15 each, $26 duos, $38 trios)
Balmies, of course! Choose from four shades to suit your skin tone and/or mood. Dewy, but not oily? Check. Light-catching, but not glittery? Check. As sustainable as they come? Check.
6. BROWS
Alima Pure Natural Definition Brow Pencil ($22)
The glide on this pencil is divine! Choose a hard line for bold definition, or blend it out for subtle enhancement. We love that it’s a wooden pencil and not a plastic tube.
7. BLUSH
Axiology Balmies ($15 each, $26 duos, $38 trios)
Balmies are made with just 9 ingredients and can be used on eyes, lips and cheeks. Not only are they vegan, they’re also zero waste!
8. EYELINER
Ere Perez Jojoba Eye Pencil ($32)
We’ve got a theme going… we love a crayon or pencil! These eyeliners are so easy to use, have a lovely no-tug glide, and come in an array of traditional and jewel-tone colors. Gorgeous.
9. MULTI-STICK FOR LIPSTICK, BLUSH, AND EYESHADOW
Axiology Multi-Sticks ($24)
When Axiology founder, Ericka, started making lipsticks, her goal was to make the most moisturizing vegan lipstick possible. 200 formulations later and voila! They're here.
Axiology Multi-Sticks come in two finishes, Color Cream and Tinted Dew. Color Cream Multi-Sticks give a more opaque, traditional lipstick look (while still being buildable from sheer), and Tinted Dew are just that—buttery, dewy goodness in a range of subtle pigments. Both formulas are mega hydrating, vegan (duh), botanically-based, and come in a diverse range of colors. From traditional reds to oranges, purples, pinks, or browns, subtle shimmer to matte, opaque to sheer balm. It’s like Pokemon… gotta [try] ‘em all.
10. MASCARA
TOK Beauty Lash Enhancing Mascara ($28)
Hello, mascara that does double duty! Get aaaall the volume and length while conditioning and strengthening your lashes at the same time. We’re particularly fond of the naturally water-resistant hold, courtesy of bayberry wax.
Choosing vegan has never been so easy!
