Why We're "Vegan AND"

Being kind to all kind is about more than avoiding non-vegan ingredients.

It’s no secret that we’re all about the animals over here—Axiology has been vegan and cruelty-free from day one. It’s the reason the brand was started in the first place!
BTW, to be super clear because we love transparency...
  • By "vegan" we mean no animal products or by-products.
  • By "cruelty-free" we mean no testing on animals—by us or anyone in our supply chain—ever.
Here's the thing: Our roots in veganism run deep. You can read all about our founder Ericka and her journey from being a kid with an "I'm not a nugget" chick sticker on her school binder to building a pioneering makeup company here.
We work hard to provide information on why we believe so strongly in vegan cosmetics, such as through these pieces about why you'll never find non-vegan ingredients in our products:
And—we're equally proud of this—our efforts have not stopped at ingredients. As product-creators and consumers, we recognize that our commitment to animals is about so much more than skipping a few non-vegan ingredients.

Wait. Isn't "vegan" pretty straight-forward?

The short answer is "yes." But the sad truth of it is that just because a product is vegan does not necessarily mean that it's sustainable or that the ingredients are healthy. And, let’s get real, if it’s not sustainable (ahem, plastic packaging), and the ingredients aren’t healthy, then the “vegan” product isn’t good for animals.
Did you know that 100,000 marine animals die every year from plastic waste alone? Or that Congress had to pass the Microbead-Free Waters Act of 2015 to stop cosmetics formulators from using tiny little plastic scrubber beads, which were poisoning fish and other wildlife that mistook the little beads for food?

Palm Oil — The Ultimate Example

This reality of wildlife as collateral damage is also why we're 100% palm-free. Technically, palm oil is vegan—it's not an animal product or by-product. However, palm oil production is a leading driver of mass deforestation, which is devastating and endangering the wildlife who live in those regions
All to say: There are many reasons why it's so important to us that we’re more than simply a vegan company—We're "vegan and" a whole host of other things.
We’re proud to be vegan, cruelty-free, clean with simple botanical ingredients, palm-oil-free, and 100% plastic-free.
We know we're not perfect, but we're doing everything we can to be kind to each other, animals, wildlife, and the environment.
Thank you to all of you for your support!
